The Israeli Ministry of Energy has awarded 12 new offshore blocks to British companies Cairn and Soco. 19 exploration licenses were tendered in the second bidding round and were grouped into five zones. Minister of Energy has said that with the arrival of additional European companies, the sector will experience an increase in competition and breakup of the monopoly.
