Pertamina Plans to Reduce 81 Tons of Carbon Emissions by 2060

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-energy firm Pertamina is set to take an important role to reduce carbon emissions in the energy sector as the company pledges to reduce emissions up to 81.4 million tons by the year 2060. Pertamina director of strategy, portfolio, and business development Iman Rachman in a webinar on the topic of energy on Tuesday said the company has contributed to 27.08 percent carbon emissions reduction up to 2020. He added that the company’s long term plan is to reduce another 29 percent by the year 2030. “Pertamina, acting as the national energy firm and one of the largest SOEs takes an important role in leading the energy transition and reduction of emissions in the energy sector to ensure sustainability,” said Rachman on December 7.

Pertamina inks agreement with PLN to supply LNG

Indonesian state electricity company, PLN has inked an initial deal to purchase 167 BBTU of gas per day from PT Pertamina for 20 years. The deal comes as PLN reduces the use of diesel fuel. Energy major, Pertamina will provide LNG to PLN's power plants with a combined capacity of 1,870 megawatt, across 52 sites within two years.

Pertamina and Petronas ink crude swap agreement

Indonesian state-run, PT Pertamina inked a framework agreement with Malaysia's Petronas to sell and buy crude this year. The deal, which was announced through a statement yesterday, will see Petronas and Pertamina swapping crude produced in the Malaysian fields of Kikeh, Kimanis and Kidurong with crude from Indonesian fields of Jabung and Ketapang. The agreement follows up from Petronas and Pertamina's plan last year to exchange crude.

Indonesian Deputy Energy Minister yesterday informed about awarding the West Ganal oil and gas exploration block to a consortium led by Eni. The consortium, which also consists of Pertamina and Neptune Energy, has fixed a commitment of $159.3 million investment for the next three years. The Indonesian government received a signature bonus of $30.1 million through the deal.

Petrobras to prove Pasadena refinery operational to Chevron

According to sources, supermajor Chevron has asked Petrobras to prove Pasadena refinery to be operational before taking possession of the facility. Chevron announced in January to spend $350 million for the proposed acquisition of 112,229 barrel-per-day (bpd) Pasadena refinery from Petrobras. Sources revealed that the ownership transfer was stalled after the refinery went under planned overhaul.

Pertamina hires SK and Hyundai for refinery upgrade

Indonesian state-owned Pertamina has signed up SK E&C and Hyundai E&C for the $4 billion Balikpapan refinery upgrade project. In the same media briefing, the state oil major also entered into a framework agreement with Oman’s Overseas Oil and Gas LLC (OOG) for the development of a $10 billion refinery and petrochemical complex in Bontang.

Eni’s Merakes will commence production in 2021

Indonesian Merakes project of Eni will start production of natural gas in 2021, informed country’s deputy energy minister. This offshore project is expected to produce 155 mmcfd of natural gas per day initially which might rise to 391 mmcfd. According to the latest revision, Eni and its partner Pertamina will take 67% of crude oil and 72% of natural gas production and the rest will go to the Indonesian government.

Indonesia’s strategic move towards import reduction

Pertamina to develop Sanga Sanga Oil block

Pertamina will take over Chevron’s Rokan oil

Pertamina will take over the operation of Rokan oil block as soon as the Chevron’s operating contract expires there in 2021, informed the Deputy Energy Minister of Indonesia. Reportedly, the offer made by Chevron for an extension of its contract was very less than that made by Indonesian oil giant. Pertamina struggling to achieve target prices

A source close to the Indonesian oil giant, Pertamina revealed that the company has kept the August import quota of gasoline to about 10 million barrels, unchanged from July. The company is facing problems in achieving target prices and recently canceled a tender that necessitated 500,000 barrels of 92 RON gasoline. Pertamina has sought a total volume of 1.3 million barrels of gasoline for August loading and delivery.
