DNV-GL approves of Samsung’s INTELLIMAN Ship software

Issuing a factual statement to Samsung Heavy Industries, Norway-based DNV GL has approved of the firm’s INTELLIMAN Ship software. In a ceremony organized in Daejeon, South Korea, DNV-GL confirmed the compliance of the software with the EU-MRV and IMO-DCS regulations. SHI’s INTELLIMAN Ship, which is an integrated smart ship solution, simplifies data management from fleet operation to life-cycle service, both onshore and onboard.

Egina FPSO set sail

Nigeria’s oil and gas sector achieved another milestone yesterday as the $3.3 billion Floating Production Storage Offloading (FPSO) unit set sail to the Total’s Egina oilfield. The vessel is manufactured by Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) for the 200,000 barrels per day capacity Egina oilfield. The Egina FPSO sailed away from Samsung Yard in South Korea in 2017, and arrived at the Samsung Yard in Lagos, this January 2018.

Samsung Heavy receives LNG carrier contract

European ship-owner, Celsius Tankers has awarded Samsung Heavy Industries with the contract for two 180, 000 cubic meters LNG carriers. The Celsius LNG carriers will be the first carriers in the world to possess Samsung’s air lubrication system, SAVER Air. The SAVER Air reduces friction by spraying air at the bottom of the ship to form a layer of air between the hull surface and seawater, saving loads of energy.

Samsung bags $370 million deal

South Korea’s major shipbuilder, Samsung Heavy Industries Co., informed that it has successfully grabbed a deal worth $370 million. Reportedly, the company will be building 2 liquefied natural gas carriers for a European shipping company. The capacity of the carriers will be 180, 000 cubic meters and are set to be delivered to Celsius Tankers by December 2020. So far this year, the company has received orders for building 31 vessels.

Samsung Engineering hands EPC contract to McDermott

Technology provider, McDermott has secured an EPC contract for Chicago Bridge and Iron (CB&I) storage tanks in Saudi Arabia. The contract was awarded by Samsung Engineering, for the Jubail United Petrochemical Company (JUPC) Ethylene Oxide (EO)/Ethylene Glycol (EG) Plant No. 3 at Jubail, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Under the fixed lump sum type contract, McDermott will carry out EPC of 23 CB&I storage tanks and will modify two existing tanks.

Samsung Engineering secures $551m contract in Vietnam

Samsung Engineering has entered into an agreement with Vietnam-based, Long Song Petrochemicals Co. to construct a 450,000-ton-a-year high-density polyethylene (PE) plant and a 400,000-ton-a-year polypropylene (PP) plant in Vung Tau City. The project, amounting to 620 billion won (US$551 million), is scheduled for completion in 2022. Samsung Engineering has already secured 6.3 trillion won worth of orders in the first half of 2018.
