China to launch low-sulphur fuel by Q1 2020

Shanghai Futures Exchange has informed that China will launch low-sulphur fuel oil futures in the first quarter of 2020. This would be China's second bonded oil futures contract. The first contract was in March 2018 on the Shanghai International Energy Exchange (INE), a ShFE subsidiary. Apart from this, ShFE will actively promote the launch of alumina future also.

IMO to set stricter targets to reduce greenhouse gas emission

In order to cut the sector's emission, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has decided to make stricter energy efficiency targets for certain types of ships. IMO's Marine Environment Protection Committee will conduct a meeting in London this week. The agenda of the meeting will be to discuss tougher rules on sulphur emissions and other long-term measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% from 2008 levels by 2050.

Fluor Corp has reported completion of substantial engineering for Marathon Petroleum’s Tier 3 gasoline sulfur standard reconfiguration project at the Galveston Bay refinery. Fluor is offering engineering, procurement and construction management services for the Texas refinery to achieve newly-formulated U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Tier 3 gasoline sulfur norms, by 2020.
