Azerbaijan initiated a part of $40-billion pipeline complex on Tuesday that will create the first direct route to transport gas from one of the world's biggest fields to Europe, bypassing Russia. The Southern Gas Corridor will be transporting gas 3,500 kilometers from the Caspian Sea to Europe through three interconnected pipelines. The infrastructure Azerbaijan will enable export 31 billion cubic metres of gas annually.
