(Reuters) - International Business Machines Corp and Amazon.com Inc’s Amazon Web Services said on Monday they would work together to extend the reach of a set of tools that oil companies use to manage disparate types of data. Amazon in 2018 worked with Royal Dutch Shell to create a technology to turn data from more than a century of oil production, largely from paper records, into a standardized format for multinational oil companies to improve efficiency across their operations.
Schlumberger, IBM and Red Hat, signed a major collaboration pact to accelerate digital transformation across the oil and gas industry. The unique collaboration will enable Schlumberger’s use for IBM’s hybrid cloud technology Red Hat OpenShift platform. Using the container platform will enable the deployment of applications in the DELFI environment across any infrastructure, from traditional data centers to multiple clouds, including private and public.
The new supercomputer of Total is said to enhance efficiency, enable its geologists to find oil faster, cheaper and with a better success rate. Total informed, "The Pangea III computer build by IBM will help process complex seismic data in the search for hydrocarbons 10 times faster that before". This computer has secured top rank among supercomputers in the oil and gas sector, according to TOP500 table.
After Skolkovo Institute, Russian-Gazprom NEFT has now reached an agreement with tech giant IBM for the development of new technologies in onshore oil production. The new technology will be used to boost the efficiency of geological exploration and production of onshore reserves. The expanded cooperation is within the framework of an agreement made on strategic cooperation between Gazprom and IBM during this year’s St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
